AUTHOR PROBES DEPTHS OF BLOOD TIES IN SUSPENSE-PACKED THRILLER
Bookcover
Atlanta, GA (BlackNews.com) – Daisy Roberts releases her debut novel, A Blood Like Yours, to high acclaim and reviews.
A Blood Like Yours is the story of a rising African-American executive, Karra Johnson and Carl Marlsnick, her Caucasian, power-driven, ego-centric boss and their tumultuous romantic relationship. In the tradition of Southern storytelling, the plot swelters around rich characters whose ages are not defined by years but by drama, endless drama. Once Carl feels betrayed by Karra, he attempts to make her life a living hell. Carl’s wife, his sons, Karra and her friends, all experience the backlash of revenge. Sexual assaults, chronic addictions and paralyzing secrets are revealed. Private investigators, murder-for-hire plots and near death experiences changes the characters’ lives forever and leaves the reader begging for more pages to turn.
Daisy wrote A Blood Like Yours in early 2007 and published it in November 2007. "As with any new author, I can see a little bit of myself in almost every character. It’s a humbling revelation to write a book and then let others read it, especially one characterized in the erotic thriller genre. It’s like exposing your own secrets to the world. At the same time, there is a tremendous feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment."
"Independent publishing and print-on-demand is the wave of the future, and the future is now," she adds. "By self-publishing my book, it allowed me to cut out the middle man (i.e. a separate publisher) and get my work out there the way I want it. The storyline in my book is much like my journey of self-publishing. It puts you in control of your destiny."

A UNIQUE LOOK AT THE COMPLEX WORLD OF BEAUTY, RACE AND ADVERTISING — BLACK BETTY POSTERS.COM
Lucky Brown poster |
Robyne Robinson |
Minnetonka, MN (BlackNews.com) – Black hasn’t always been beautiful.
In fact, it wasn’t that long ago in American history when the ‘Brown Paper Bag Test’ determined a black woman’s standard of attractiveness — if you were lighter than the bag, many blacks thought you were much prettier than sisters with copper or cocoa-colored skin. Why?
Porcelain skin was considered the pinnacle of beauty, and many black women spent millions bleaching their skin with creams and lotions called "Lucky Brown" and "Madam Jones", hoping to reach some level of cosmetic — and social acceptance.
Where did these ideas of beauty for black women come from?
Some say a combination of racism, advertising and design. Quick-thinking white businessmen not only played on the slavery-damaged psyche of assimilated blacks in the 1920’s and ’30’s, they made fortunes doing it.
Black Betty is a website that explores the complexity of beauty, race and the power of ad design. Visitors can buy vintage posters and t-shirts of cosmetic company labels created during the golden age of advertising. Use Black Betty as a source for black memorabilia, an historic resource on advertising, or share it with friends who love with vintage graphic design.

BLACK SEXUAL ABUSE WEB SITE & BOOK DEBUT
Online Support Group, and Book Offer Support to Black Sexual Abuse Survivors

Philadelphia, PA (BlackNews.com) – Thanks to a grant from the prestigious Leeway Foundation (www.leeway.org), black sexual abuse survivors now have an online resource to help them heal. Black Sexual Abuse Survivors (BSAS), www.blacksurvivors.org , just launched, making it the first official, national online support group for black male and female, adult sexual abuse survivors.
Up until now there have been very few resources for African-American sexual abuse survivors. With this new online support group, black men and women can make up their own online profiles so that they can participate in the online support group anonymously. This key feature is very important for sexual abuse survivors who are often still marred by feelings of shame and secrecy, but desire to get help with their recovery.
Other useful tools on the site are: the user online surveys, which poll the opinions of users as it relates to sexual abuse in the black community; how sexual abuse has specifically affected the black community; how black sexual abuse survivors cope; specific resources for healing for black sexual abuse survivors; and a list of famous black sexual abuse survivors.
Currently, one in 4 women and 1 in 6 men report they were sexually abused as children. Of that statistic, 3.3 million African-American women have been sexually abused and 1.9 million African-American men have been sexually abused. Family members and acquaintances account for 93% of predators.
BSAS was created by Sylvia Coleman, BA, an award-winning health journalist and sexual abuse survivor, who teaches the From Victim to Victor workshop for black sexual abuse survivors. Coleman is also the author of the recently released memoir, Creating a New Normal: Cleaning Up a Dysfunctional Life. The book chronicles in extraordinary detail her recovery from sexual abuse: www.lulu.com/content/2533021
