    Why
blackAL.com?

  What is
blackAL.com?

Doing Business in the Black - In 2002 there were more than 28,600 firms in Alabama with black ownership.  Black-owned businesses in Alabama produced $1.75 billion in sales and receipts in 2002.  There are about 2,230 (8%) black-owned businesses that have paid employees.  Many of the other 92% or 26,370 are home based or side businesses.*

Altogether black-owned businesses in Alabama have an annual payroll of $361 million.  Because there are so many more black-owned businesses than there ever have been in the state, it is likely that more of these can grow into businesses that provide employment opportunities for other people.  Alabama may be poised for a leap to the next level for many black entrepreneurs...*

blackAL.com doesn't have any employees.  Instead we require that everyone who directly works with blackAL.com have their own business for their talent or gift.  In this way we have created another way to recycle money back directly into the commUnity.

Why blackAL.com? Because Alabama has a rich and deep heritage for black people.  The hills sing the songs of those who struggled in their generation so that the ones coming behind them would not have to go through the same struggles.  With more black-owned businesses in Alabama than ever before, someone has to get the word out.  That someone is
